Soswae Garden, or Soswaewon is an
artificial wood created on the northern trails of Kwangju's Mudeung Mountain
at Jigok-ri, Nammyeon in Damyang-gun, South Cholla Province. The person who
dug the first shovel of earth to make the garden was Soswe Gong, Yang
San-bo, who lived from 1505 to 1557. The construction work continued for
three generations and to the present maintains its noble features. The
luxuriantly grown trees surround the traditional Korean-style garden and
building, highlighted by a valley running across the middle. The garden
boasts a rare view of perfection that is difficult to find in the nearby
areas.
