Cherry blossom trees flank a 5-km stretch of country road known as "Wedding Way," a nod to the romantic canopy provided by the white blossoms of the trees. The petal-strewn road begins at Hwagye Market, straddling the border of South Cholla province and South Kyongnam province on its way to Ssanggye Temple, which dates back to the Shilla dynasty (c. 400-500). The cherry blossom trees of Wedding Way are among the first to blossom on the Korean peninsula, announcing the arrival of spring for the nation. The sense of rebirth and renewal represented by the season is manifested when the cherry blossoms are seen against the verdant green backdrop provided by the valley's fields. By the middle of March, the cherry blossom season reaches its peak all over South Korea.
