The "Beverly Hills" of Korea,
Apgujeong-dong
pgujeong-dong has performed the function of being the number one source of fashion culture for the past 10 years and the first thing that comes to mind is "Rodeo Street." This term originally came from Rodeo Street in Los Angeles, California. And as in its "parent street" in the US a lot of fashion shops of famous designers moved into this one in Apgujeong. Since then the street has become the number one fashion street in Seoul and Korea.
All of Apgujeong-dong was filled with pear trees only 20 years ago. So, when spring comes, the fields were covered with the white blooms of the trees. But the region became the home to the wealthy in the mid 70's following large scale development and the construction of apartment blocks. There are also the most famous national as well as international fashion brand shops in the streets
The principal visitors to Apgujeong, (sometimes referred to jokingly as Korea's Beverly Hills), are young people conscious of their attire. They are challenging and breaking with tradition. The style of accessories, hair and dresses which are in fashion in this region, very often spread nationwide, one or two months later.
Since Apgujeong was the first place where foreign culture was truly assimilated, one is aware of the complexity of the combination with Korean culture. There are a variety of things to see, such as cafes with exotic atmospheres, and characteristic bars as well as fusion restaurants.
